With Lantern: Land Urn I attempt to show how I feel about natural, wild places and their importance, even places which exist precariously in the midst of the seemingly dominant force of industry and modern civilization. The lantern in this installation is a beacon, showing us another way, offering us solace and peace, but valid by its existence and not beholden to us. We are responsible for the protection of these wild life-filled spaces, and are constantly guilty of their destruction. --Margaret Atkinson

"It is horrible to see live beauty that has taken years to mature and at last has reached its prime, hacked down, uprooted." –Emily Carr
